Glossary of Terms
Carbon Dioxide equivalent
compensate a business' carbon emission by supporting projects that reduce, avoid, or remove emissions elsewhere. In other words, balance the Carbon Dioxide equivalent of your emissions
is the result of offsetting the CO2 produced
the reduction of an entity's carbon footprint to less than neutral
achieving a balance between the carbon emitted into the atmosphere, and the carbon removed from it
describes activities / businesses that go beyond achieving net-zero carbon emissions to create an environmental benefit by removing additional carbon dioxide from the atmosphere
occurs when a claim is made that a product or service does more to protect the environment than it really does or tracking emission but not having a framework to plan to reduce it
Green House Gases - the gases in the atmosphere that raise the surface temperature of planets
The GHG inventory covers the seven direct greenhouse gases under the Kyoto Protocol.
Carbon dioxide (CO2)
Methane (CH4)
Nitrous oxide (N2O)
Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)
Perfluorocarbons (PFCs)
Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6)
Nitrogen trifluoride (NF3)
Where can we help you make a difference?
Mainly by managing emissions of CO2 and N2O, as well as the Methane from food waste, by redistributing surplus food from events to charitable causes and local communities in need.
SBTi (Science Based Target initiative): Emissions reductions targets adopted by companies to reduce GHG emissions are considered “science-based” if they are in line with the level of decarbonization.
Scope 1: direct emissions that are controlled and / or owned by your organisation (e.g. your facilities, vehicles etc.)
Scope 2: indirect GHG emissions associated with the purchase of electricity, heat etc. to run your organisation. They are the result of your organisation's use of energy (e.g. gas bill of your facilities)
Scope 3: the GHG of your chain of suppliers. You don't control their emissions, but you control how you choose your suppliers
Zero waste: (rethink refuse redesign) - prevent waste creation (use reusable lunch box for your sandwich instead of clingfilm) - supports circular economy
Zero waste to landfill: going to landfill or incinerating waste without gaining energy
